IBM WebSphere Application Server is a conglomeration of software. At its most basic, WebSphere is a J2EE 1.3 compliant application server that handles the usual tasks and provides the necessary administrative tools. On top of this functionality, however, sits an enormous stack of support and related software that sets WebSphere apart in this demanding and highly competitive space.
