Advanced Digital Information Corporation, a provider of intelligent storage solutions for the open systems market, announced the general availability of its AMASS for UNIX data management software, AMASS 5.3.

ADIC’s New AMASS 5.3 data management software promises increased security, performance and flexibility

According to the company, its latest AMASS version incorporates support for Write-once Read-many (WORM) tape technology and the latest revisions of UNIX operating systems to provide users with high security storage for large data sets at low cost.

AMASS promises to give end users access to information stored on high capacity tape and optical storage systems using the same applications they use to access data on disk, which may greatly reducing storage costs. With support for Sony Corporation’s AIT WORM tape drives, AMASS 5.3 should allow IT departments to use high-capacity, low-cost tape libraries to store digital data as part of SEC-mandated policies for long-term record keeping.

AMASS 5.3 includes upgraded support for the latest versions of Solaris, HP-UX, Irix and Tru64. Other core AMASS 5.3 features include on-line metadata search, clustered server support, and capacity that scales to handle millions of files and petabytes of data. AMASS should be compatible with all leading media types, including LTO and 9940B tape drives, optical media, and DVDs, to provide flexible data storage options that fit a wide range of budgets and applications.
