CollabNet, a provider of collaborative software development solutions, announced a multilevel relationship with Sun Microsystems. CollabNet says that it has completed a full port of its CollabNet SourceCast Collaborative Development Environment (CDE) to Solaris. CollabNet plans to qualify the Sun ONE Studio for Java Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to use source code repositories within the CollabNet SourceCast environment. In addition, CollabNet is renewing its Sun Developer Connection Program membership.

CollabNet’s SourceCast Collaborative Development Environment is now fully ported to the Solaris Operating Environment.

This announcement extends the current long-term relationship between the two companies. CollabNet has been working with Sun Microsystems for some time and providing the CollabNet SourceCast environment for several Sun collaborative development projects, including: NetBeans.org, OpenOffice.org, JXTA.org, Sunsource.net, Grid Engine, and Jini.org.

“CollabNet already has a solid relationship with Sun Microsystems, and we are excited to be announcing the next phase of our partnership,” said Brian Behlendorf, co-founder and CTO, CollabNet. “Extending our relationship with Sun through our support for the Solaris Operating Environment and Sun ONE Studio, allows CollabNet customers to benefit from the proven reliability and scalability of Sun technologies.”

“Sun has been working with CollabNet for more than two years. Through our work with CollabNet, Sun has realized the benefits of Web-based collaborative software development for our numerous Sun-sponsored open source projects. By offering the CollabNet SourceCast environment on Solaris, CollabNet will provide its customers with the additional benefits of the premier enterprise operating environment,” said Danese Cooper, senior manager, Open Source Programs Office, Sun Microsystems.

According to CollabNet, its SourceCast environment combines tools for software configuration management, issue tracking, mailing list creation and management, document and file management, discussion forums, project tracking, and administration. The CollabNet SourceCast environment has been successfully deployed in a wide variety of software development environments to address a number of business challenges, including: distributed development, mergers and acquisitions, offshore or contract development, and Web services.
