Networking giant Sun Microsystems and SAPMarkets, the exchange company of the SAP group, penned the deal saying they will now collaborate on joint sales, marketing and business development to expand the customer base of the MarketSet solution.

Two Palo Alto-based companies Thursday announced a joint strategic marketing and business development agreement to offer one of the first scalable UNIX MarketSet solutions.

Networking giant Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW) and SAPMarkets, the exchange company of the SAP group, penned the deal saying they will now collaborate on joint sales, marketing and business development to expand the customer base of the MarketSet solution.

MarketSet is a supply chain application for the UNIX environment developed by Pleasanton-based e-marketplace company Commerce One (Nasdaq: CMRC) and SAPMarkets.

“The alignment of the Sun and SAPMarkets technologies means that now our mutual customers benefit from exchanges and integration hubs,” says SAPMarkets president Mayur Shah. “The integration and collaboration capabilities of MarketSet combined with the power of the Sun systems are a very attractive offering.”

MarketSet’s focus is a collaboration platform that allows for different business functions such as design, planning, purchasing and analysis across multiple software systems and services. The benefits are delivered through public and private exchanges and integration hubs.

Along with the partnership, Sun is also joining SAPMarkets’ Global Partner program and says it and SAPMarkets will provide whatever training and or infrastructure is necessary to make it work for their clients.
