Zeus Technology followed up on its recent release of Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager with a new version of Zeus Web Server 4.3, whose capabilities complement those of its traffic management tool.

Zeus Web Server 4.3 offers closer integration with PHP, more flexible FastCGI management, updated mod_perl support, improved directory listings, automatic MIME type detection, and additional reporting and analysis capabilities.

Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager features advanced TrafficScript control language, N+M scalability, deep content inspection, intelligent Web Services routing, and end-to-end traffic security to better translate business logic into traffic management decisions.

Version 4.3 adds support for the 64-bit version of AIX5, and for MacOSX requires MacOS 10.3 or later. Support for the IBM ICA Cryptographic Accelerator on AIX 5 (32 and 64 bit) and Linux PPC (32 bit) has also been added.

ATEN Switches to New KVM Solution

ATEN Technology this week released a KVM solution designed specifically for medium and large network environments.

The new Matrix switch, which is part of the vendor’s ALTUSEN line, allows four users to directly access and control as many as 32 users connected to 4,096 computers through a combination of daisy chaining and cascading.

The Matrix’s main selling points are that it enables an admin to control multiple computers from the server rack or any computer across the Internet (when connected to an ATEN KVM on the Net solution) as well as manage several thousand computers from single/multiple consoles and organize servers to maximize data center space.

The Matrix includes RJ-45 CPU connections and Auto Signal Compensation (ASC) that allows signals to travel up to 1,000 feet away with crystal-clear video resolution, thus eliminating the need for KVM extenders. Designed to optimize data center rack space, the Matrix is housed in a 1U- high case that can hold all 32 ports. This switch also allows any type of console to control any type of computer, whether USB or PS/2.

Other highlights of Matrix include:

  • A “Keep-Alive” feature that ensures keyboard and mouse connections work properly, even when the KVM switch loses power
  • Convenient computer selection via Hot Key combinations and On Screen Display menus that automatically expand when stations are added
  • Hot pluggable capabilites
  • AutoScan feature for monitoring user-selected computers
  • Three-level password security (super administrator, administrator, and users)
  • LCD, VGA, SVGA, XGA, and multi-sync monitor support
  • Live firmware upgrades

The Matrix carries a list price of $3,999.95 and is backed by a three-year warranty. It is available for immediate purchase.
