Oracle this week released BEA WebLogic “SafeSwitch” Migration Kit, an offering designed to help enterprises migrate business applications efficiently from BEA WebLogic to Oracle9i Application Server.

According to Oracle, a significant number of Oracle Database customers that initially chose BEA WebLogic have since found Oracle9iAS to be a more logical choice due to its tight integration with the database. The vendor added that users found the link between the two products to bring faster development, increased cost savings, enhanced performance, and simpler application and business integration.

Oracle this week released BEA WebLogic “SafeSwitch” Migration Kit, an offering designed to help enterprises migrate business applications efficiently from BEA WebLogic to Oracle9i Application Server.

Oracle cites the increased demand from customers with existing BEA WebLogic installations looking for a fast and easy way to migrate to Oracle9iAS as the driving force behind the migration kit.

Enterprises that have recently migrated or chosen Oracle9iAS over BEA WebLogic include CalPERS, Ecos Technologies, DC Tech, EPL, Intellinger, Solo Cup, and Tower.

A key component of the migration kit is Cacheon’s Cacheon Migrator. The Cacheon Migrator automates much of the migration effort, enabling new Oracle9iAS customers to migrate pure J2EE applications and proprietary vendor extensions without the custom programming that formerly was required.

Until now, enterprises that wanted to migrate their WebLogic applications to Oracle9iAS had to make manual changes to BEA’s custom J2EE configuration files and proprietary application program interface extensions unique to WebLogic.

Oracle’s offering includes a scheduled migration process that is defined in documentation and code samples to help guide developers through the migration process.

Enterprises have the option of using Oracle Consulting’s Migration Accelerator service, which Oracle claims enables enterprises to complete the migration in five days, or of going it alone using the self-service documentation that is included.

Oracle is currently offering a 50-percent trade-in credit for SafeSwitch, in addition to the standard volume discount, to further entice BEA WebLogic customers that wish to purchase and migrate to Oracle9iAS.
