Open source web server developer, NGINX, has partnered with Parallels, a hosting and cloud services provider to enhance Parallels’ web hosting products with NGINX web server capabilities. Recently ranked as the second most popular web server for active sites, NGINX has just passed the 60,000,000 mark of enabled Internet domains.

“Parallels is one of the largest and most influential companies on the market, providing state-of-the-art hosting and cloud infrastructure products,” said Andrey Alexeev, co-founder of NGINX. “We are honored to inaugurate this new partnership and to be able to offer service providers the additional performance benefits of using NGINX with Parallels Plesk Panel 11.”

Under the partnership, Parallels will integrate NGINX open source software into its Parallels Plesk Panel 11 solution, leveraging the features of NGINX and optimizing the Linux web hosting performance of the Parallels Plesk control panel.

According to the company, the combined solution will include additional controls to activate NGINX as part of the Parallels Plesk Panel integrated product suite. The announcement was made today in Orlando during Parallels Summit 2012, an event that attracts a global audience of over 1,200 leading participants from across the cloud and hosting industry.

“We are pleased to offer our customers the option to offload resource-consuming tasks like concurrency, compression, caching and SSL acceleration from Apache to achieve more scalability and robustness with Parallels Plesk Panel,” said Craig Bartholomew, Vice President, Shared Hosting and Control Panels at Parallels. “NGINX’s innovative technology allows us to address the need for managing concurrency issues precisely and with full backward compatibility with the existing Parallels Plesk Panel installations.”

With the combination of NGINX and Parallels Plesk Panel 11, customers will be able to automatically install and configure an NGINX web proxy in front of a standard Apache web server. This configuration will speed up delivery of clients’ website contents and will give faster and more predictable performance by offloading concurrency and latency processing from Apache to NGINX.
