NEC Computers Inc., next week will release the Express5800/120Lf, the first workgroup departmental server in the vendor’s Express5800 server line.

Designed to eclipse all leading 2-way servers currently on the market in the $3,000 price category, the 120Lf uses Intel Pentium III processor technology and aims to offer superior storage capacity, network bandwidth, I/O capacity, and server management capabilities.

NEC Computers Inc., next week will release the Express5800/120Lf, the first workgroup departmental server in the vendor’s Express5800 server line.

The 120Lf offers 730 GB of internal storage capacity, dual on-board Ethernet, support for up to six PCI I/O options, and on-board system management logic.

“We’re delivering exceptional capabilities in nearly every server metric that matters to our customers and resellers,” said Peter Thayer, director of marketing for NEC’s server business unit in a prepared statement.

“The 120Lf combines some of the best technology available with lots of configuration flexibility and custom built-to-order capability to help customers and resellers get the right performance profile for their particular application needs,” Thayer added.

Every 120Lf server includes a complete suite of configuration and management software, including NEC Expressbuilder, NEC ESMPRO Management Suite, and the MWA Management Workstation Application for remote management. No additional hardware options or add-in cards are required.

The 120Lf is the first workgroup server for the Express5800 line. Other offerings in this product line are rackmount dual processor systems (the 120Ra-1 and 120Rc-2), multi-CPU Intel Pentium III Xeon-processor-based systems (the 140Hb, 180Rb-7, and AzusA 16-way Itanium), and fault-tolerant, continuously available systems (the 320La).

The 120Lf is priced starting at $2,999 and can be purchased as a built-to-order system through select resellers (including Ingram Micro and Tech Data) or from NEC Computers at +1 800 246 9915. All Express5800 servers are backed by a three-year limited warranty that includes on-site service (where available). Optional extended plans are also available.
