Hewlett-Packard Licenses Jabber Communications Platform

Jabber announced Monday that Hewlett-Packard had licensed its Jabber Communications Platform.

The Jabber Communications Platform is a software platform for instant messaging and presence-enabled applications and services. It is built around the XML-based Jabber open protocol, and offers an engine on which service providers, enterprises, and software developers can create custom intstant messaging, VoIP, or other collaborative solutions.

Jabber announced Monday that Hewlett-Packard had licensed its Jabber Communications Platform.

“The Jabber IM platform can be readily integrated into collaborative customer support environments,” said Rob Balgley, Jabber CEO and President.

“Business enterprises are increasingly using IM for enhanced customer service solutions as well as other real-time communications solutions. We are committed to working with customers such as HP in support of their requirements for operational excellence in the delivery of services,” Balgley added.

The Jabber Communications Platform is designed to provide a secure and private solution for communications between internal employees and can be set up as a corporate-branded portal to enable communications with customers.

Jabber is an independently operated subsidiary of Webb Interactive Services. France Telecom is also an investor in the instant-messaging vendor.

Jabber’s roots are in the Jabber Open Source project. With more than 60,000 servers deployed and customers in the telecommunications, enterprise, and software development markets, the vendor believes Jabber is the worlds most widely used open platform for extensible instant messaging and presence management applications.
