Gateway Thursday added a new offering to its Gateway 930 Series server line.
The Gateway 930X server joins the 930C, the 930L2, and the 930S. Like the other servers in the 930 Series, this new configuration is designed for small businesses and workgroups that have high performance requirements and extensive storage needs.

Where the 930X stands out is that it has two Intel Pentium III 1.40-GHz processors rather than one, 1 GB of PC 133 Error Correction Code SDRAM (twice as much as the 930S, and four times as much as the 930C and 930L2), and three 36GB SCSI hard drives (offering twice as much storage as the 930S and 930L2, and four times as much as the 930C).
The 930X also includes a DDS-4 20/40GB SCSI tape backup solution, a dual channel RAID controller with 64 MB of cache, and dual hot-swapple 350-watt power supplies.
Like other servers in the 930 line, the 930X is housed in Gateway’s workgroup chassis, which is designed to give system administrators tool-free access to major system components. The chassis features captive thumbscrews and color-coded cues to simplify maintenance and serviceability, and thus reduce downtime.
“As small businesses rely more on technology to keep their businesses moving, Gateway will continue to deliver server configurations that give them the performance, reliability, and expandability they need at a price that’s hard to beat,” said Jim Jones, vice president of segment marketing for Gateway.
The 930X ships with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with five client licenses. Gateway offers 30 days of operating system support. The vendor also includes with each server a three-year parts and labor limited warranty with on-site service and next-business-day technical support for the life of the system.
The 930X is priced at $6,000 and is available for purchase from Gateway’s Web site or its stores.
