Java developers now have a new resource to turn to when using BEA WebLogic Server.

Gamma Enterprise Technologies is offering a free study guide and mock exam for BEA WebLogic Server certification. Both are available online at www.getgamma.com/wlscert.html.

Java developers now have a new resource to turn to when using BEA WebLogic Server.

The study guide is broken into ten sections and starts with a discussion of prerequisites to get users familiar with WebLogic. It then moves into more-specific features and functionality associated with WebLogic in sections that discuss such topics as how to design and build reusable enterprise components; handle issues facing transactional systems; use vendor tools to develop software components; and configure the server for clustering, load-balancing, and failover capabilities.

Each section includes “activities” (typically readings from BEA, Sun Microsystems and Web sites such as TheServerSide) and “milestones” (skills and knowledge that should be mastered before moving to the next section).

The study guide is laid out to mirror BEA’s exam section requirements. It is designed so that users who review the sections in the order in which they are laid out will have covered the material required for certification on completion of the study guide.

The guide is dynamically structured so as to keep up to date with the latest API specifications. Because of this, supporting documents are linked, rather than hard copied, into the guide.

An interactive mock certification exam is also available on the site. Real-time scoring provides immediate feedback, and test results of the mock exam are e-mailed back to the user.

A J2EE Forum where users can share information is also available.

“Our goal is to provide a comprehensive resource for learning BEA’s WebLogic Server by providing links to useful materials,” said Gamma software engineer and author of the study guide Joe McGuire.

“We’re offering this free resource to the Java community as a way to help expand opportunities for developers and to do our part to promote BEA WebLogic Server,” said Matthew Minkovsky, Gamma president and CEO.

Founded in 1991, Gamma has been a BEA partner since 1996. Companies to which it has provided WebLogic and application integration services include Direct TV, E*Trade, Wells Fargo, and the Gap. Gamma’s other Java training programs include one-week intensive workshops in Java Enterprise Development Using J2EE.
