Fujitsu Technology Solutions will announce Tuesday its plans absorb Amdahl IT Services and retire the Amdahl brand.

The combined new entity will retain the FTS name and will continue Fujitsu Limited’s goal of expanding its global brand and market leadership in IT services and solutions outside of Japan.

Fujitsu Technology Solutions will announce Tuesday its plans absorb Amdahl IT Services and retire the Amdahl brand.

Although the official, legal integration will not take place until the start of FTS’ fiscal year on April 1, for all practical purposes the consolidation of resources has already taken place.

Post-absorption, FTS will focus on assisting companies to become “Adaptive Enterprises” — that is to be capable of balancing the needs of rapid change and IT stability, while maximizing their return on investment in current and new technologies.

FTS plans to do this by offering products and services that help enterprises achieve business-led IT innovation despite uncertainty, changes, and increasingly complex e-business integration.

To support this new mission, the company will announce three new resources available to FTS customers and noncustomers alike:

  • The Adaptive Integration Methodology comes to FTS from the Amdahl side and is actually an integration of consulting-type products that span an entire engagement.
  • The InfraForum.net Industry Infrastructure Forum originated with FTS as the Infracare Forum and is a Web site dedicated to offering infrastructure solutions.
  • The Solutions Integration and Assurance Center in Sunnyvale, Calif. represents FTS’ $5 million investment in creating a multivendor heterogeneous environment in which enterprises can test applications.

FTS will continue to support legacy Amdahl processors in its S/390 product line.
