Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) announced it has shipped thousands of midrange SPARC T4 servers with Oracle Solaris, enabling customers to power enterprise and mission-critical applications on Oracle Solaris 10 or 11 — with full binary compatibility back to Oracle Solaris 2.6.

Oracle’s SPARC T4 processor combines optimized performance on single-threaded and cryptographic workloads with high throughput performance, creating a scalable system-on-a-chip (Soc) ideal for a wide range of mission-critical applications.

According to Oracle, SPARC T4 servers is one of the fastest ramping server products in Oracle history and has been adopted by more than 800 customers across industries, including Core Services Corporation, Emerson, Motorola Solutions, Portugal Telecom, Qualcomm, Wipro and others.

“Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers with Oracle Solaris provide a combination of performance, scalability and security that’s resonating with customers across the globe,” said Masood Heydari, senior vice president, hardware development, Oracle. “There’s tremendous momentum behind our SPARC T4 line and it’s clear that our ability to engineer hardware and software together is making SPARC T4 the clear choice for  next generation data centers.”

Designed for mission-critical applications, Oracle’s SPARC T4 enterprise servers are engineered with Oracle’s complete software stack to enable customers to consolidate multiple application tiers onto a single server, reduce system complexity, and improve utilization.

With Oracle Solaris 11, the first cloud operating system, SPARC T4 server customers can take advantage of cloud-scale life cycle management with secure, fail-safe boot environments, safe roll-backs, faster upgrades and system re-boots.

Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers deliver better value and help reduce cost with extensive built-in capabilities, including integrated on-chip cryptographic acceleration, as well as Oracle VM Server for SPARC and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center at no additional cost with systems support.

“Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers are also available as part of Oracle Optimized Solutions, pre-tested, tuned and fully documented solutions that reduce costs and accelerate deployment times,” said Oracle.
