The PowerEdge 400SC is priced starting at $499.
The vendor claims it is the first server from a major systems manufacturer to include these features at this price point.
Not surprisingly, Dell is aiming this value proposition at small and midsize businesses (SMBs) and has optimized the server for network infrastructure and file or print applications.
The server’s footprint was also designed with the SMB in mind. According to Dell, the server’s compact pedestal chassis and intuitive setup tools enable small organizations with little or no IT staff to easily replace a desktop-based network with their first server.
“Our SMB customers tell us that to be competitive they need the fastest technology at the lowest price,” said Neil Hand, director of Product Marketing, Dell Product Group. “By delivering industry firsts in performance features, the PowerEdge 400SC provides customers with plenty of computing power so they can stay focused on growing their business.”
The PowerEdge 400SC is powered by an Intel Pentium 4 processor at up to 3.2 GHz and features up to 4 GB of memory. It contains two IDE or SCSI drives, ECC 400 MHz of DDR memory, an Integrated Gigabit Ethernet network connection, and hardware RAID controller options.
The PowerEdge 400SC is available for immediate purchase with factory installation of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, and Red Hat Linux.
