Compaq Tuesday unveiled the latest products in its ProLiant server line. This next generation of ProLiant DL380 and ML370 servers is designed to provide intelligent, global server solutions for customers’ infrastructure needs from the data center to the network edge.
The two servers are the first products to incorporate Compaq’s Advanced Memory Protection Architecture.
Compaq Tuesday unveiled the latest products in its ProLiant server line. This next generation of ProLiant DL380 and ML370 servers is designed to provide intelligent, global server solutions for customers’ infrastructure needs from the data center to the network edge.
This announcement comes on the heels of yesterday’s big news that the hardware vendor had signed an agreement with Intel to transfer key enterprise processor technology to Intel and consolidate its entire 64-bit server family on the Itanium architecture by 2004 (see A Boost for Intel’s Itanium).
“The advanced technology and solutions Compaq has developed and integrated into our newest market-leading ProLiant and TaskSmart appliance servers extends Compaq’s leadership in industry standard computing and offers customers a competitive advantage through a simplified and easily managed IT infrastructure,” said Mary McDowell, senior vice president and general manager, Compaq Industry Standard Server Group in a prepared statement.
The ProLiant DL380 and ML370 will offer the first implementation of Compaq’s Advanced Memory Protection Architecture, Online Redundant Spare Memory. Online Redundant Spare Memory enables customers to extend memory resilience by offering DIMM level memory fail-over without requiring scheduled downtime.
The new ProLiant DL380 is the first 2U server to offer redundant Hot Plug features and enterprise manageability for mission-critical applications. The ProLiant ML370 is the first 2-way server to have advanced memory protection and high-availability features optimized for remote site and data center environments.
The ProLiant DL380 and the ProLiant ML370 are scheduled for general availability in July 2001.
Compaq also unveiled two new TaskSmart Web-hosting appliance servers on Tuesday: the next generation of the C-series for accelerated content delivery and the new W-series designed for Web hosting.
The C-Series enables enterprise and service providers to maximize bandwidth resources, as rich content is pushed through the network and brought closer to the access device. The result of an alliance formed between Compaq and Inktomi, the TaskSmart C4000 is built on Inktomi’s Traffic Server network cache and Traffic Server and Media- IXT software.
The W-Series offers complete browser-based set up and administration. It is pre-configured for optimal performance out of the box, minimizing the amount of setup, tuning time and resources required. This enables customers to deploy a functional Web server in a matter of minutes. The TaskSmart W2200 is designed for enterprise customers and Web-hosting service providers looking to rapidly deploy large numbers of fixed-configuration Web servers.
The TaskSmart C4000 will be priced starting at $7,199 and will be available in July 2001. The TaskSmart W2200 is available immediately and is priced from $1,799.
