Starting Wednesday, Covalent Technologies’ Fast Start Server and Enterprise Ready Server will come preloaded on the Compaq ProLiant DL320 and the Compaq ProLiant DL360, respectively.

This partnership, initially announced in August 2001 (see “Covalent to Deliver Apache Solutions on ProLiant Servers“), is Covalent’s first such arrangement with a hardware vendor, a Covalent spokesperson told ServerWatch.

Starting Wednesday, Covalent Technologies’ Fast Start Server and Enterprise Ready Server will come preloaded on the Compaq ProLiant DL320 and the Compaq ProLiant DL360, respectively.

This software/hardware combination was designed for large enterprises looking for highly manageable and scalable Web infrastructure solutions.

Optimized versions of the Apache management tools will come preinserted on DL320 and DL360 servers running the Linux operating system.

“Combining Covalent’s Web server application with industry-leading Compaq ProLiant servers enables customers to quickly and cost effectively deploy a highly manageable Internet infrastructure running Linux,” said Mark Linesch, vice president of Internet and E-Commerce Solutions, Compaq Industry Standard Servers Group.

Covalent’s Enterprise Ready Server is a comprehensive enterprise-level solution for Apache Web servers. Its distributed management interface for Apache enables systems administrators to manage hundreds of Apache Web servers from one location. Covalent’s Fast Start Server is an entry-level solution for enterprises seeking basic management services.

The DL320 with Covalent Fast Start Server is powered by Apache v1.3 and is priced at $2,900. It contains a 1G Hz Pentium III processor, 256 MB of RAM, 18 GB of storage, and a 1U rackmount form factor.

The DL360 with Covalent Enterprise Ready Server is powered by Apache v.0 and is priced at $4,246. It offers a 1 GHz Pentium III processor, 512 MB of RAM, 36 GB of storage, and a 1U rackmount form factor.

When purchased individually, Enterprise Ready Server costs $1,495 per CPU, and Fast Start Server costs $995 per CPU.

The offerings are being sold via PC Mall’s eLinux Web site and sales force, and over the telephone at +1 877 39 LINUX. Enterprises can purchase the servers as prepackaged, or they can custom-configure a solution specifically tailored to their needs.
