Wireless Internet network solutions provider Axis Communications AB Thursday unveiled its Mobile Access Server at CeBIT 2001. The wireless server is the heart of Axis’ Local Mobile Networks offering.

Mobile Access Server will allow service providers to communicate using unlicensed radio technologies. The system manages positioning data and user identification. It also features increased security and billing interfaces.

Initially, the server will be adapted for Bluetooth wireless technology and the WLAN 802.11 standard. The crux of the Mobile Access Server’s technology is based on AXIS 9010 Bluetooth Access Point.

Mobile Access Server will be made available to select Axis partners some time during the second quarter of this year.

Axis Communications is a subsidiary of Axis AB. The Sweden-based company develops network appliance solutions that enable individuals and organizations to get easy and immediate access to devices and services. In addition to its wireless products and involvement with mobile communications, Axis has products in several key thin server and network device markets, such as printer, storage, and video connectivity.

Founded in 1984, Axis employs more than 500 people worldwide, including its 50 percent owned subsidiary, Netch Technologies.
