Amdahl IT Services Tuesday announced the immediate availability of its Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) on Millennium 2000C and Millennium 2000E System/390- and z/OS-compatible CMOS servers. Native FICON channel architecture will be available later on this quarter.
IFL allows engines to be used exclusively for Linux, VIF, and z/VM 4.1 or above for Linux. It is designed to reduce software licensing costs for enterprises by providing an alternative to proprietary software. IFL will also be available on OmniFlex and Millennium 700 and 2000A servers later this quarter.
Amdahl IT Services Tuesday announced the immediate availability of its Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) on Millennium 2000C and Millennium 2000E System/390- and z/OS-compatible CMOS servers. Native FICON channel architecture will be available later on this quarter.
According to Amdahl, FICON will offer improved I/O performance and throughput, a greater number of channel-to-control unit concurrent connections, increased link bandwidth, greater distance from the FICON channel to the control unit or director, and greater channel device address support.
With these new features, Amdahl aims to demonstrate the company’s continued commitment to delivering maximum value and lowest total cost of ownership to System/390 customers by continuing to expand the product line with new features, upgrades, and services.
“Linux is becoming an increasingly significant player in the data center and FICON provides numerous benefits not offered by previous channel architecture. We are pleased to make both available on our Millennium 2000C and 2000E servers,” Susan Twietmeyer, Amdahl IT Services vice president of Marketing and Strategic Operations, said.
The Millennium 2000 Series servers are System/390 compatible CMOS servers developed for large-scale OS/390 environments that require consistent high performance and continuous availability.
Millennium Series servers incorporate Amdahl’s Dynamic QuickCapacity feature. Dynamic QuickCapacity boasts a comprehensive feature set for maintaining nonstop availability and nondisruptive growth.
The server also offers a Multiple Server Feature capability to offer options for sub-capacity licensing to manage software assets and help lower total cost of ownership as well as with simple consolidation. The Multiple Server Feature creates multiple discrete servers with unique serial numbers within a single Millennium footprint. This enables enterprises to license software on a per-server basis, rather than on the basis of total footprint capacity.
