Bottom Line:

The HPE Synergy 660 is built for large enterprise, and top-of-the-line enterprise and data center needs. If you can accept no compromise on performance, this one should be a top candidate.

It’s a “front line” blade for when speed and sophisticated data processing capabilities are of the essence. In short, if you have the money for the best, a box that can balance physical, virtual and containerized applications effortlessly, this unit deserves your consideration.

But budgetary necessities may make the Dell PowerEdge MX480C, or the SuperMicro SuperBlade a suitable option – and, for lesser workloads, perhaps even a better option.

Product Description:

The HPE Synergy 660 Gen10 Performance Compute Module includes up to four Xeon Scalable processors. It is designed to reduce operational complexity for traditional workloads and increase operational velocity for new applications and services. Through a single interface, HPE Synergy composes physical and virtual compute, storage, and fabric pools into any configuration for any application.

HPE Synergy supports both two-socket and four-socket full-height compute modules, as well as up to 6 TB of memory, and up to four SFF drives. It delivers higher performance and scalability for enterprise data-intensive workloads. Flexible I/O configurations are available. HPE Silicon Root of Trust protects assets against downtime associated with hacks and viruses. Threat protection helps to protect, detect and recover firmware,

System tuning with processor smoothing and workloads matching can improve processor throughput/overall performance up to 8% over the previous generation. Management features include intelligent auto-discovery, quick provisioning, broad 3rd party integration. Up to 6 mezzanine options offer enough I/O and redundancy for workloads requiring high availability. For example, up to 160 zoned drives are possible per storage controller (61 TB internal storage).

“Everybody noticed very large improvement in data processing. A lot of activity which took hours now takes, let’s say, tens of minutes on Synergy. We’re able to provision different applications, different demonstrations, add cloud-like speeds on-prem, which is unheard of in the industry,” said the Service Manager at a retail firm.
