IBM this week sweetened the business continuity mix for iSeries customers by unleashing a two-fold offering.

IBM this week sweetened the business continuity mix for iSeries customers by unleashing a two-fold offering.

The iSeries for High Availability server is aimed at the enterprise data center market. Enterprises that have already deployed an iSeries 825, 870, or 890 can purchase a second server as a replicated backup production server for about one-third the price of the first one. Enterprises that chose this approach for their disaster recovery and failover solution must also purchase Big Blue’s clustering solution software, Ian Jarman, iSeries Product Marketing Manager told ServerWatch.

The pricing for this solution is as follows:

Server Price for
First Server
Price for
Second Server
i825

$330,000

$205,000

i870

$965,000

$665,000

i890

$1.9 million

$1.47 million

IBM also announced an offering for enterprise seeking an offsite, disaster recovery server. The iSeries for Capacity Backup solution is based on IBM’s on-demand initiative and enables organizations to buy server power to keep in reserve. With this solution, a disaster recovery center can purchase a second server with a minimal number of processors activated and the rest configured to turn on, should the main system fail.

For example, the 870 can be purchased with only one processor activated and five on standby. Should the system in the data center go down, the remaining five processors will activate, making the offsite server the main system until designated otherwise.

Organizations that purchase this solution also have the option of buying capacity by the day if needed, Jarman said.

The iSeries for Capacity Backup solution is priced as follows.

Server Minimum No.

Be Activated

Both the he iSeries for Capacity Backup solution and the iSeries for High Availability server are available immediately from IBM.
