iPlanet Expands Web and App Servers Product Line

iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, Wednesday announced a newly expanded multitiered line of Web and application server software designed to support a range of operating requirements for delivering open, smart Web services.

The expanded product line includes an updated version of the iPlanet Web Server and three new editions of the iPlanet Application Server. The product line is designed to enable customers to deploy Web applications on the platform that best suits their current budget and functionality requirements. The products can also scale to meet changing business requirements, as the line is designed to accommodate a broad spectrum of operating situations encountered on the Internet.

iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, Wednesday announced a newly expanded multitiered line of Web and application server software designed to support a range of operating requirements for delivering open, smart Web services.

The product line includes an entry-level edition of the app server for Java technology development, a fully Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) certified edition for mission-critical applications, and a new high-end edition.

The following four pieces of software comprise the product line.

iPlanet Web Server 6.0 is a powerful, scalable, and
flexible platform for delivering dynamic Web content for enterprises and
service providers. New features and enhancements in 6.0 include performance
improvements, support of virtual domains, and heightened security capabilities.

iPlanet Application Server, Standard Edition 6.0 is a new addition
to the iPlanet Application Server family. Standard Edition offers a relatively inexpensive entry point to enterprises that want to build highly scalable and available Web applications using the J2EE platform. Standard Edition includes full support for Java Servlets, and JavaServer Pages expands iPlanet Web Server 6.0”s features by providing additional session management and monitoring capabilities.

iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Edition 6.0 is the latest release of iPlanet”s flagship J2EE technology-compliant application server. Enterprise Edition is designed for customers that need to develop and deploy highly scalable transactional business logic. It provides full support for Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) architecture
as well as load-balancing, clustering, and distributed transaction functionality.

iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Pro Edition 6.0 is a new addition to the iPlanet product family. Enterprise Pro Edition builds on Enterprise Edition”s features and functionality by adding business workflow management tools and application integration capabilities that leverage the underlying J2EE framework. This edition includes a Universal Integration Framework for projects that require tight integration into any existing enterprise application, including PeopleSoft, SAP R/3, Tuxedo and IBM CICS.

iPlanet Web Server 6.0 is scheduled to be released in May 2001 and will be priced at $1,495 per CPU. iPlanet Application Server, Standard Edition 6.0 is expected to be
available in June 2001 at a price of $2,995 per CPU. iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Edition 6.0 is currently available and can be purchased for $19,995 per CPU.
Enterprise Pro Edition 6.0 is expected to be available in March for $39,995 per CPU.
