BEA Systems, Inc., a leading e-business infrastructure software company, Wednesday announced the general availability of BEA WebLogic Server 6.0.

WebLogic is an enterprise-level Java application server used for building, running, and future-proofing high-volume, mission-critical e-business applications.

BEA Systems, Inc., a leading e-business infrastructure software company, Wednesday announced the general availability of BEA WebLogic Server 6.0.

This new release extends the product’s core functionality with the latest J2EE innovations, a wide breadth of industrial-strength, “mainframe-class” functionality, and substantial manageability benefits across the complete e-business application life cycle.

Changes in 6.0 fall into four key areas:

  • Simplified ease-of-use capabilities across the application lifestyle, which includes a Web-based management console and out-of-the-box manageability
  • The inclusion of an enterprise messaging server to allow JMS-based communication between applications as well as integrated messaging with Enterprise JavaBeans
  • Enhanced XML communication capabilities that provide flexible content presentation services, business-to-business integration, and enterprise application integration
  • Certified as fully J2EE compliant

BEA WebLogic Server 6.0 incorporates BEA Tuxedo’s technical underpinnings to deliver a new pure-Java distributed transaction engine that enables customers to build and deploy a new class of transaction-intensive applications built on the J2EE standard platform with “Tuxedo-class” transaction management. This change to the core infrastructure will “enable the integration of e-commerce with database transaction management capabilities,” John Keiger a spokesperson for BEA, told ServerWatch.

BEA WebLogic Server 6.0 will be available for download on December 18, 2000 and will be released in a packaged format shortly thereafter. Pricing will be the same as v5.1, and enterprises with previous versions of WebLogic should consult their service agreements regarding upgrades.
