In a move to signal its intent to focus on the approaching explosion in mobile computing, e-business platform provider Brokat (NASDAQ:BROA) this week relased GemStone/J version 4.1, a high-performance, scalable application server built on J2EE technology.

Developed by GemStone Systems, a Brokat company, GemStone/J v4.1 includes support for Entrust Technologies’ (NASDAQ:ENTU) Entrust/PKI 5.0 software. Entrust PKI is an e-business security infrastructure that provides privacy for transactions conducted over wired or wireless networks.

In a move to signal its intent to focus on the approaching explosion in mobile computing, e-business platform provider Brokat (NASDAQ:BROA) this week relased GemStone/J version 4.1, a high-performance, scalable application server built on J2EE technology.

As electronic transactions over wireless devices increase, mobile business (m-business) systems will have to provide thousands of concurrent users with real-time shared transactional access to complex business rules and data in a secure environment.

“Brokat intends to be the market-leader in end-to-end m-business solutions in North America, and as a result, all our products are developed with the cutting-edge technologies that define m-business. The Java-based architecture and Entrust/PKI support of GemStone/J v4.1 are indicative of our efforts to set the stage for the unfolding m-business era,” said Doug Pollack, Brokat’s chief marketing officer.

Brokat’s GemStone/J v4.1 uses GemStone’s own Extreme Clustering technology to run multiple applications simultaneously. This allows for 24×7 system availability that scales with traffic.

Gemstone was also recently branded Entrust-Ready. The addition of Entrust/PKI 5.0 support provides encryption, digital signature, and key and certificate management; all of which Brokat believes will result in a scalable, secure platform for reliable mobile business.

GemStone/J is available in four editions: Web, Component, Enterprise, and Commerce Automation. It is priced starting at $4,995 and is available immediately.
