Novell (NOVL) today began shipping NetWare v5.1.

NetWare v5.1 provides new technology for organizations using open, Web-based e-business applications and Web-based network management and resources, a statement issued by the company said. It includes Novell’s latest Novell Directory Services eDirectory to extend the reach of computer networks to employees, customers and supply chain partners via the Internet.

Novell (NOVL) today began shipping NetWare v5.1.

With this official release, customers can begin using Web-based applications based on NetWare v5.1. Products available include IBM WebSphere Application Server 3.0 Standard Edition and IBM WebSphere Studio 3.0 Entry Edition. The IBM WebSphere family of products on NetWare enables customers to extend their server operating system ib-based applications across the entire organization.

Novell has certified 52 compatible software applications that are based on this release, and an 180 others also run on NetWare v5.1. A complete listing of products that customers can begin using immediately with NetWare v5.1 can be found on Novell Solutions Search.

Novell’s partners have shown support for NetWare v5.1 with hardware, software applications, utilities, and services that compliment its latest server operating system. Companies such as Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard and IBM are supporting NetWare v5.1 for the benefit of mutual customers. A list of partners can be found on Novell’s site.

NetWare v5.1 also features the NetWare Management Portal. The portal provides secure access through a Web browser to NetWare v5.1 servers, enabling administrators to manage and monitor their networks any time from any place.

Pricing for v5.1 ranges from $1,345 for a license for one server plus five-users (or $715 to upgrade) to $10,745 for a 100-user additive license (or $5,700 to upgrade). Further details about licensing costs can be found on Novell’s site.
