Windows 2000 Service Pack One and the 64-bit W2K set for release

   Microsoft
has announced that the service pack for their Windows 2000 Operating system is
set for release.  The good news is that they  have stated that this is
not a necessity for current Windows 2000 implementations.  You will not
have to upgrade.

   This upgrade will increase
security and application stability while maintaining OS reliability.  You
will be able to download it from the upgrade and download site as soon as it is
set and will be able to get it on CD with added tools as well.

   The 64 bit version of
Windows 2000, which many people doubted would ever be released, seems to have
made it to the forefront.  It will be released in accordance with the Intel
Itanium chips and will ship to developers in both Professional and Server
editions. 

   The combination of the Intel
Itanium chip and the 64 bit version of Windows 2000 are supposed to offer the
next generation of scalability and reliability for your enterprise.

   Personally, I think that
they have rushed this one out the door.  The whole IT world was expecting
them to be a little behind on this release, so they should have taken the time
to work through the inevitable bugs that will come up.  I expect that
within a month of the release of this 64 bit version, you will see a large list
of hotfixes or a service pack release.

   You would think that by now
we would all realize that rushing something into our field just ends up putting
it back into development.
