Sybase, Inc. unveiled Sybase EAServer 4.0 at this week’s TechWave 2001 Conference.
This latest version of the application server will offer full support for J2EE 1.3 technology, which will enable enterprises to develop, build, and deploy Web-based enterprise applications online.

With its support for J2EE 1.3 technology, EAServer offers support for Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0, updated connectors, an exposed Java Messaging Service API, Web server plug-ins, unified install, and a Java Dynamic Management Kit API.
EAServer 4.0 continues Sybase’s support for major standards for component deployment, such as CORBA 2.3, COM, PowerBuilder, and the J2EE Connector Architecture API.
With EAServer 4.0, Sybase intends to enhance its robust Messaging Service by exposing the JMS API and the proprietary interface to give users a standards-based, guaranteed message delivery system.
The new version of EAServer will also handle JavaServer Pages and servlet requests automatically from the user’s Web server without requiring a third-party JSP/Servlet engine or a change of Web server. System administrators will be able to monitor application servers in real time with added JDMK API, thus reducing the need for additional software or coding.
EAServer 4.0 runs on a variety of operating systems: Linux, Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and IBM-AIX.

We are proud to continue to offer an even better EAServer product to suit every organization’s specific needs,” said Rick Adam, senior vice president and general manager of Sybase’s e-Business Division in a prepared statement.
“With this new version of EAServer, Sybase continues its commitment to working with the latest J2EE technology,” Adam added.
EAServer 4.0 is scheduled to ship during the third quarter. It will be priced starting at $7,500.
The application server is available in three flavors: Small Business Edition, Advanced Edition, and Enterprise Edition. A Developers Edition is available for free to engineers and programmers.
