Sendmail, Inc. this week unveiled a complete line of Linux messaging, hosting, and routing products for IBM’s eServer product line. Sendmail Switch, Sendmail Advanced Message Server, and Sendmail Mobile Message Server on Linux are designed to provide a cost-effective e-mail system with high scalability, reliability, and manageability.

All three products are available immediately from Sendmail.

Performance tests conducted by Sendmail and IBM found that a single IBM eServer z900 mainframe could support more than 2 million users, making it the largest single-server e-mail system on Linux currently available, according to Sendmail.

For enterprises that require larger environments, Sendmail offers a cluster architecture that enables customers to harness multiple mainframes to transparently serve a greater number of users.

Sendmail believes the products’ seamless scalability and high reliability make the solution for the IBM eServer z900 ideal for global enterprises with mission-critical e-mail systems supporting employees, customers, and partners, as well as for service providers that host e-mail services.

“Consolidating the management of critical applications, such as e-mail, is a priority for our customers, particularly in today’s economic environment, because it significantly reduces the operational costs associated with maintaining several servers simultaneously,” said Joann Duguid, director of marketing for Linux on the IBM eServer zSeries.

“There is no debating that e-mail is a vital application for conducting business today,” commented Greg Olson, executive vice president business development for Sendmail.

“Most larger companies already run their critical applications on the mainframe platform because it provides a level of reliability unmatched by any other system with a total cost of ownership optimized over 30 years. For these companies e-mail is best served on their mainframes,” Olson added.
