Lyris Technologies earlier this week released version 5.0 of ListManager, its popular e-mail marketing software.

Enhancements in ListManager 5.0 were made with e-mail marketers and publishers in mind. Lyris also kept in mind enterprises with large legacy databases when developing the upgrade.

Lyris Technologies earlier this week released version 5.0 of ListManager, its popular e-mail marketing software.

While previous versions of ListManager used a FoxPro-format database to store list member information, this latest version uses an SQL database to improve stability and increase performance.

One of the key additions in version 5.0 is ListManager’s external database compatibility with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Oracle. Lower-cost licenses that work with two local databases, Microsoft MSDE and PostgreSQL, will also be available.

ListManager comes with a choice of feature sets. The “Standard” feature set is intended for organizations that communicate via e-mail announcement lists, newsletters, and discussion groups, and that basically send the same message to everyone on a particular list. The “Pro” feature set boasts functionality to enable marketers to send targeted and customized one-to-one messages to individual list members or list segments.

To appeal to e-mail marketers and publishers, the Pro feature set now offers various message personalization features, including conditional content and an easy scripting language. These features let marketers create customized messages using preset criteria based on list member information stored in the organization’s databases.

Other new features in the Pro version but not the Standard version include, a merge/purge wizard that sends the same message to multiple lists without duplication, Tcl scripting capabilities for message customization, and MultiView news reader.

Both feature sets offer support for much larger member lists than did the previous versions, mailing histories, and site sizes (with no more file size limitations).

Windows and Linux versions of ListManager 5.0 are available, and a Solaris/Sparc version is currently in Beta. Prices range from $500 to $37,500.

An evaluation copy of ListManager with the Standard feature set can be downloaded from Lyris’ site.
