Dell’s PowerVault SAN Grows Its Customer Pool

Dell Computer today announced expanded capabilities for its PowerVault storage area network (SAN) that will include support for a broad range of industry standard servers.

With its newly added support for many Microsoft Windows NT and 2000, Intel-based platforms, Dell offers enterprises a storage solution that will enable them to leverage their existing Windows server investments and be able to scale to accommodate their growing data requirements.

Dell Computer today announced expanded capabilities for its PowerVault storage area network (SAN) that will include support for a broad range of industry standard servers.

Starting today, PowerVault SAN can be used with Windows servers from vendors that include Compaq, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard.

Dell storage products aim to provide simplified and standardized storage solutions for customers of all sizes, ranging from small organizations to large, global corporations with enterprise-level requirements.

“Dell has a proven track record of being able to extract market share in the enterprise because of its direct sales force, customer focus and value-based pricing,” said Steve Duplessie, senior analyst with the Enterprise Storage Group in a statement released by Dell.

This added compatibility is Dell’s way of addressing a fast growing portion of the total worldwide disk storage systems market; International Data Corporation expects the worldwide Open SAN market to grow 62 percent in 2001, bringing it to $7.1 billion. Dell is working toward meeting this need by offering SANs with enterprise-class functionality at a much lower price than many traditional storage vendors.
