SuSe Linux Wednesday introduced eMail Server III, the latest version of its server-based e-mail solution.
Based on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7, eMail Server III is targeted at small to midsize enterprises and dedicated workgroups looking for an easy-to-install, complete mail solution.
SuSe Linux Wednesday introduced eMail Server III, the latest version of its server-based e-mail solution.
The IMAP-compliant solution handles the reception, distribution, and transmission of e-mail by administering and storing mail on a central server. Users can access their mail from any client device or e-mail client. The mail server also allows users to access e-mail through a Web browser.
According to SuSe, this release of the mail server offers improved performance and a central data storage that facilitates simple and comprehensive data backups. A graphical user interface has been added on the system administrator side, and a Web-based user interface makes it easier for him or her to implement user-specific adaptations.
Also new in version III is the capability to set up and administer internal and external mailing lists. Skyrix’s calendar and scheduling functionality for booking appointments, rooms, or other resources has been bundled in, and groups or individuals can be automatically notified by e-mail about upcoming appointments.
Version III also supports virtual domain administration. Its Web-based user interface simplifies the process of adding new domains and allows e-mail from multidrop mailboxes to be distributed to various recipients.
All relevant Internet standards, including IMAP, LDAP, SMTP, POP3, TLS, and SASL are supported.

SuSe eMail Server III will be available the end of this month. The recommended retail price for one server is EUR 990 + VAT. The server comes with three manuals, 30 days of support, one year of active maintenance, and Arkeia, a server backup solution from Knox Software.
Enterprises with previous versions of SuSe Linux eMail Server can upgrade to version III until December 31, 2001 for EUR 740 + VAT.
