Starting today, developers using Macromedia’s (MACR’s) Director 7 can download version 2 of Shockwave Multiuser Server. This update provides expanded functionality for developers creating multiuser applications.
When implemented, Shockwave Multiuser Server enables Web users to collaborate and communicate in real time using rich, dynamic Shockwave content created with Macromedia’s Director 7 Shockwave Internet Studio.
Starting today, developers using Macromedia’s (MACR’s) Director 7 can download version 2 of Shockwave Multiuser Server. This update provides expanded functionality for developers creating multiuser applications.
Shockwave Multiuser Server 2’s new features enable Shockwave applications to share data more efficiently using new server runtime attributes. Its new server commands provide easier scripting when creating multiuser Shockwave applications. New database objects allow persistent data (e.g., member profiles for personalization, high scores and other game state information, or collaborative creations)to be stored more efficiently.
The interaction facilitated on a site by Shockwave Multiuser Server opens a variety of options for developers, such as the creation of user friendly technical support, easily supported one-to-one contact, and online meetings in a workplace setting. Features that support these new developments include intermovie messaging, relational databases, group attributes, improved Lingo syntax and server extensibility.
Shockwave Multiuser Server 2 is shipping with Director 7 Shockwave Internet Studio, and includes a license for developers to deploy applications that support up to 50 simultaneous users. Registered customers can download the new server for free from Macromedia’s Web site. Additional licenses for 100, 500, or 1,000 users can also be purchased from Macromedia. Macromedia has also partnered with HearMe to extend the reach of multiuser Shockwave applications to up to 1 million users using HearMe’s POP.X Server.
Users upgrading from Shockwave Multiuser Server 1.0 to 2.0, must first download version 1.0.2. No new version of Macromedia Director or the Shockwave Player is required for use with version 2 of the server.
