Content management vendor Vignette announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Sun to deliver portal building blocks, or portlets, that integrate its recently announced Vignette V6 MultiSite Content Manager (VMCM) with Sun Microsystems’ iPlanet Portal Server.
The portlets will enable VMCM to integrate with the iPlanet Portal Server, offering customers of both Vignette and Sun access to Vignette-managed content within the Sun portal framework.

This partnership to develop portlets extends the current alliance between Sun and Vignette. Vignette’s continued commitment to native support for the J2EE standard enables tight integration that allows enterprise customers to more fully leverage current or future investments in Sun and Java technology.
VMCM is an extension to Vignette V6 Content Suite. The application is designed to enable organizations to manage content on multiple sites and portals easily within a single application.
Vignette V6 offers content management functionality for portal development and deployment. The combination of standards-based VMCM and Sun’s infrastructure lets organizations launch new portals more rapidly while leveraging their investment in iPlanet’s industry-standard portal server.
“Vignette V6 MultiSite Content Manager, in combination with the iPlanet Portal Server, will help enterprises effectively manage multiple sites while providing a personalized experience for each user,” said Wes Wasson, vice president of product marketing for iPlanet.
