O’Reilly & Associates has upgraded WebSite Professional to take advantage of numerous recent security advancements. Version 2.4 of WebSite Pro supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.0 and features significant improvements including client certificate authentication and exportable 56-bit cipher strength.
Transport Layer Security 1.0 is the latest release of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), which up to now has been the current standard encryption protocol for Web data. Additionally, WebSite Professional 2.4 supports SSL versions 2.0 and 3.0. Visitors to a site that is served by WebSite Professional 2.4 can buy a certificate that guarantees their identity. The certificate replaces multiple user names and passwords, and can be used on any site which the user visits. These certificates, which can be obtained from a variety of vendors, can be as reliable as fingerprints to identify an individual.

The U.S. government has restrictions on the strength of the data encryption it allows to be exported outside the country, however, they have recently increased the limit from 40 bits to 56 bits. As such, WebSite Professional now provides for 56-bit data encryption for export.
WebSite Professional 2.4 is expected to become available in the fourth quarter and will be a free upgrade for registered users.
