Oracle Tuesday presented the latest results for Oracle9i Application Server based on SPECjAppServer2001, a new industry benchmark designed to measure the performance of J2EE application servers.

Oracle’s latest SPECjAppServer2001 results for Oracle9i Application Server show the popular app server has reached a new performance high when running on Solaris and Linux.

According to Oracle, the SPECjAppServer2001 results for the Oracle9i Application indicate that it is the fastest application server with the best price/performance.

To ensure the results are relevant to perspective customers, Oracle focused its benchmarking efforts on high throughput dual and multinode configurations. Furthermore, Oracle’s results included multiple Linux configurations to better meet the growing customer need for relevant benchmark information to size up Linux systems for application server deployments.

Results were as follows:

  • Multiple Node on Sun: 1476.81 BOPS (average number of successful business operations per second) with a price of 1540.03 $/BOPS on Sun Microsystems’ Sun Fire V880 servers running with Oracle9i Application Server Release 2.0 the Solaris operating system
  • Dual Node on Dell: 189.63 BOPS with a price of 506.61 $/BOPS on Dell PowerEdge 6650 servers running with Oracle9i Application Release 2 and the Linux operating system
  • Multiple Node on HP: 558.85 BOPS with a price of 389.54 $/BOPS on HP’s ProLiant ML530G2 Cluster servers running with Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 and the Linux operating system
