We’ve compiled a list of some of the more useful third-party tools available for managing your cloud services from the Amazon Elastic Cloud Computer (EC2) or other Amazon Web Services (AWS).

We’ll start with some handy browser extensions for quickly accessing your cloud services on your PC and then move on to mobile apps that you can install on your Android devices and a cloud service you can use from a browser or mobile device.

Firefox Extensions:

ElasticFox-EC2tag: This is an updated and improved version of the original ElasticFox extension for Mozilla Firefox, which gives you the ability to manage your Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) infrastructure. With ElasticFox-EC2tag you can create and manage AMIs, instances, volumes, elastic IPs, key pairs and other EC2 functions.

Amazon S3 Organizer (S3Fox): S3Fox offers the ability to upload/download and synchronize files from your Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) with a FTP client-like interface on a Firefox tab or pop-up. You can drag and drop files, delete files/folders and create folders. You can also manage S3 Cloud Front Distributions, modify Access Control Policies, and create time-limited URLs.

Chrome Extensions:ServerWatch

Dome9 Instant Access: You can securely access your cloud servers, including AWS EC2 instances, if you use the third-party cloud security service from Dome9. This extension adds an icon to the Chrome toolbar, providing quick and secure access to your cloud servers you have set up through Dome9.

Extended S3 Browser: The extension enables you to quickly access your Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) files in the Chrome browser. It adds an icon to the Chrome toolbar that brings up a simple web interface to view, delete and upload files via selection or drag-and-drop. You can also create folders, view the properties and metadata for selected files, and add and manage Buckets.

SdbNavigator: SdbNavigator provides quick and simple access to your Amazon SimpleDB (managed NoSQL) database. It adds an icon to the Chrome toolbar that brings up a simple web interface (that they say is comparable to PhpMyAdmin) to create, read, update and delete both Domains and Records. You can also find records using your own queries, or by sorting on properties.

Android Apps:

Cloud Hub: Cloud Hub is a simple free app that provides basic management of Elastic Cloud Computer (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3), Simple Notification Service (SNS), Relational Database Services (RDS), Route 53 (Amazon’s Domain Name System Web service) and CloudFront (Amazon’s Web-hosting service) services. It’s primarily designed for tablets running Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich, but it also works on Android phones.

Decaf Amazon EC2 Client: A feature-rich app, priced at $14.16, that lets you manage and monitor your Amazon EC2 infrastructure. Though it doesn’t support other AWS services (such as Amazon RDS or Route 53), it does offer great functionality for EC2, including SMS alerts and SSH client integration with ConnectBot.

Cloud Services:

Ylastic: Ylastic is a cloud-based service that lets you manage and monitor many AWS services from a web browser or mobile device, starting at $25 per month. Ylastic supports Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon Route 53, Amazon RDS, Amazon AutoScaling, Amazon IAM, Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon SDB, Amazon SNS, Amazon SQS, Amazon CloudFormation and Amazon VPC. It offers monitoring capabilities with alerts, live visualization and scheduling functionality, including automated backups. It also provides AWS Account Advisor, Amazon Simple Email Service and AWS Spending Analytics tools, as well as security and disaster recovery features.
