Will your current version of SMS support XP 'out of the box'? Get the full scoop on SMS support for the new version of Windows in the latest article from Dana Daugherty.

Microsoft recently released SMS support documentation regarding Windows XP. The bottom line looks like this:

  • Any version of SMS prior to version 2.0 SP3 will not support XP. For Software Distribution, you must first apply hot fix Q308271. For Remote Control support, keep your "eye" out for a hot fix currently in development that addresses the RLE method of compression.
  • The 64-bit version of Windows XP is not supported, in 32-bit or 64-bit modes.
  • Software Metering of 16-bit apps is not supported.
  • Windows XP Home Edition is not supported by any version of SMS.

Also note the reference of SP4 within this document from Microsoft.
