FreeBSD 6.1, after a mere week in beta, has gone gold. The release is primarily a maintenance one. It boasts several performance improvements, many bugfixes, and a several new features.

The latest version of the *BSD operating system boasts several performance improvements, many bugfixes, and a several new features.

A keyboard multiplexer has been added to allow USB and PS/2 keyboards to coexist without any special options at boot. Many fixes were made to improve filesystem stability. High load stress tests can now run successfully on a regular basis as part of the normal FreeBSD QA process.

Automatic configuration for many Bluetooth devices has been added, as has automatic support for running WiFi access points.

Drivers were added for new Ethernet and SAS and SATA RAID controllers. BIND has been updated to 9.3.2 and sendmail to 8.13.6.

FreeBSD 6.1 supports the i386, pc98, alpha, sparc64, amd64, powerpc, and ia64 architectures. It can be downloaded free of charge or purchased from FreeBSD Mall or Daemonnews.
