Westbridge Technology, a provider of security and monitoring solutions for XML Web services, Monday released the Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor. The Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor is designed to enable enterprises to easily and effectively monitor their networks for all XML Web services traffic without requiring changes to the network.

A new XML SOAP monitor from Westbridge Technology is designed to detect and monitor SOAP traffic and ‘sniff’ unauthorized XML Web services traffic on corporate networks.

According to the company, many IT departments use XML Web services from both top-down initiatives and grass roots development efforts. Because XML Web services are easy to use, much of the SOAP traffic across a corporate network is likely unknown and therefore unsanctioned traffic.

“Because Web Services pass through traditional firewalls, many enterprises are unaware of the sensitive data that may be flowing on their networks,” said Jason Bloomberg, Senior Analyst at ZapThink. “As Web Services become more prevalent on the desktop, the problem of unauthorized or sensitive SOAP traffic on the network will only get worse.”

The Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor is a lightweight application that plugs into any router mirror port and unobtrusively monitors all network traffic for unauthorized SOAP traffic without affecting the architecture or performance of the network.

The Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor Application is designed to enable architects, security analysts, and IT operations staff to detect SOAP traffic, view the content of the message for sensitive information, and view the sender and receiver of each message. Filtering can occur in near real-time or to log file for later processing.

The Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor is available on many Unix platforms, including Linux, Solaris, and Windows.

The Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor can operate on its own or in conjunction with the Westbridge XML Message Server (XMS). While the Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor reports on unauthorized traffic, the Westbridge XMS enforces security policies and enables administrators to protect and control their XML and Web services networks.

The XML SOAP Monitor is currently available for free to qualified organizations.
