The server "building block" products include boards, chassis, controllers, and adapters.Intel Corp. this week announced several new server-related products designed for OEM system builders and product integrators.
"Our strategy is to enable integrators and OEMs of all sizes with a breadth of server building block products which allow them to focus on their added value in terms of affordability, unique designs, and services," said Kirk Skaugen, general manager of Intel's Enterprise Platform & Services Division in a prepared statement.
Intel announced seven server board and server chassis products designed for a wide range of computing environments.
The Intel Server Board SCB2, Intel Server Chassis SR1200, and Intel Server Chassis SR2200 are optimized for high density, rackmount server environments. Server Board SCB2-based platforms can be integrated into OEM server product offerings to meet a variety of Internet applications, including clustered database, firewall, streaming media, and e-mail servers. This new product line is built around the Intel Pentium III processor with 512-KB cache.
The Intel Server Board SDS2, Intel Server Board SAI2, and Intel Server Chassis SC5100, are also built around the Intel Pentium III processor with 512-KB cache, but they are optimized for general-purpose computing environments.
The Server Board SDS2 is targeted at small-to-midsize workgroup environments that use e-mail servers, proxy/caching servers, Web servers, and database servers. The Server Board SAI2 provides small businesses with a great price/performance solution for file/print, intranet Web server, and terminal server computing needs.
Also just announced and available is the Intel Server Board S815BM1 for a 1U (1.75" height) chassis configuration. This product provides "value-conscious" businesses with Web hosting, firewall, and DNS capabilities.
Other server management, storage, and networking products Intel announced include an IPMI 1.5 server management stack implementation available via the Intel Server Management v3.5, the Intel RAID Controller SRCMR, Intel RAID Controller SRCU32, and the Intel PRO/1000 XT Server Adapter. These products are designed to improve I/O performance and data reliability in a variety of computing configurations.
