O'Reilly to Release WebSite Pro 3

O'Reilly & Associates this week unveiled version 3 of its popular WebSite Professional server.

Already known as a flexible, stable, and easy-to-use Web server, this latest version of WebSite Pro seeks to enhance performance, offers new tools, and boasts broader-than-ever compatibility.

O'Reilly & Associates this week unveiled version 3 of its popular WebSite Professional server.

Key new features in WebSite Pro 3 include revamped "Server Properties," with more options and a clearer layout; the capability to start, stop, and pause the server from Server Properties (a significant time saver, according to O'Reilly, if WebSite Pro is run as a service and thus requires constant maintenance); and a feature to create anonymous accounts automatically that use the computers NetBIOS name rather than the generic wspro_anon name.

WebSitePro 3 also comes bundled with a myriad of tools including:

  • Chili!Soft ASP, which enables users to users add Active Server Pages (ASP) pages to their sites
  • ECmerchant 2000, an award-winning server-side storefront application from ECware Corporation
  • TLS 1.0, SSL 3.0, and SSL 2.0, from VeriSign
  • JRun Developers Edition and Cold Fusion Express, from Allaire Corp.

WebSite Pro 3 requires a Pentium 166 processor, though a Pentium 500 or higher is recommended, and 30 MB free hard disk space (60 MB required for install). It works with all flavors of Windows: Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4, 96 MB RAM (128 MB or higher recommended); and Windows 98 or Windows Me, 64 MB RAM minimum (128 MB recommended).

WebSite Pro 3 will be available for purchase starting February 22. The product will be priced at $995, and upgrades will be priced at $495.

A demo version of the Web server is already available for download at http://website.oreilly.com/wsp3/demo.cfm.
