PRESS RELEASE -- Pervasive Software, a provider of embedded and Web data management software that powers business-critical applications, today announced the newest version of its flagship database engine, Pervasive.SQL 2000i. With new features designed to meet the unique needs of software developers, this database can drive both traditional and Internet-based applications across a spectrum of hardware and software platforms. Pervasive Software, a provider of embedded and Web data management software that powers business-critical applications, today announced the newest version of its flagship database engine, Pervasive.SQL 2000i. With new features designed to meet the unique needs of software developers, this database can drive both traditional and Internet-based applications across a spectrum of hardware and software platforms.

"Research shows that today's small and medium-size enterprises are particularly focused on simplicity and flexibility to drive forward their e-business strategies as cost-effectively as possible," said Wayne Kernochan, senior vice president, Aberdeen Group. "We have also found that Pervasive.SQL has consistently delivered this kind of database simplicity and flexibility to users in the real world. Pervasive.SQL 2000i shows strong promise to continue this trend, both for Internet and Linux deployments, as well as for traditional ones."

Pervasive.SQL 2000i provides backward compatibility with existing Btrieve API-based applications on various currently supported platforms (Windows, Linux, Netware and Solaris) and incorporates a rich set of features to minimize deployment and support costs, while facilitating Web and cross-platform migrations.

In addition, the software supports an extensive array of Web standards, including ODBC, OLE DB 2.5 and JDBC 2.0. It also provides support for popular development environments, including Java, Perl, PHP and other languages, giving Web developers their choice of environment.

Pervasive.SQL 2000i for Windows NT, NetWare, Workgroup and Workstation will be available for purchase on March 28, 2001. Pervasive Software expects to release Pervasive.SQL 2000i for Linux and Solaris next quarter.
