Diagnosing Windows 9x Workstations with Pview95
by Dana Daugherty
Wish you had a better tool to diagnose Win 9x processes?
Try Pview95 from the SMS 2.0 Resource
Kit. Process Viewer is a Windows 9x tool that is especially
useful for investigating process use. You can use this
tool's graphical user interface to display information about
processes on local computers running Windows 95 or
Windows 98. Process Viewer provides much of the same
information as Task Manager does for NT/2000
Workstations. You can also use Process Viewer 95 to
stop a running process. I have found that Process Viewer picks up many more running
processes than checking tasks using CTRL - ALT-
DEL. Compare them for yourself. You will first need to copy Pview95.exe to the
workstation you want to diagnose. It is also available from
the SMS 2.0 Support Tools. The version in the Resource Kit is
newer, though.
