Windows 2000 Power Toolkit
From the Back Cover:
Windows 2000 Power Toolkit If you're responsible for administering any Windows 2000 PCs -- either Professional or Server -- you'll benefit from having a copy of this book in your toolkit. Windows 2000 Power Toolkit offers a solid overview from an administrator's standpoint along with giving you very insightful tools and resources to find the additional information you might need.
If you are a power-user currently using Windows 2000 Professional or Server, or Windows NT Server or Workstation, you're undoubtedly searching for ways to optimize your productivity. With Windows 2000 Power Toolkit, your search is over.
Written by network administrator and training professional, Barry Shilmover, and Sunbelt Software President, Stu Sjouwerman, this book covers analysis, tuning, optimization, automation, enhancement, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Windows. Focusing on the use of operating system tools and utilities, Resource Kit elements, and selected third-party tuning, analysis, optimization, and productivity tools, Windows 2000 Power Toolkit teaches you how to carry out everyday and advanced tasks.
Windows 2000 Power Toolkit continues along the same tradition that Stu Sjouwerman set with his prior book, Windows NT Power Toolkit. This is an excellent resource for Windows 2000/NT administrators.
The book is divided into five primary sections: Windows 2000 Overview, Nuts and Bolts of Windows 2000, Networking Windows 2000, Managing Your Windows 2000 System(s) and Windows 2000 Goes Online: Internet or Intranet Access. The Appendixes covers almost 150 pages of the entire book and includes some very handy resources such as a comparison of Windows 2000 Pro and Server, Key Windows 2000 Resource Kit Utilities, a comprehensive Windows 2000 Command-Line Reference and the Windows 2000 Performance Monitor Objects and Counters. In addition, the enclosed CD-ROM contains demo/limited versions of about a dozen major third-party utilities for making administering Windows 2000 easier. (including Event Log Monitor, ScriptLogic, SPQuery [now known as UpdateExpert], and STAT, just to name a few)
All of the topics that you would imagine to be presented are included in these five sections. From Active Directory and the Windows 2000 Registry to Scripting and configuring IIS server are covered in great detail. Most of the topics are presented in an easy-to-read format and are written with a very noticeable perspective of a system administrator.
Continuing with the same format as the Windows NT Power Toolkit book did, Windows 2000 Power Toolkit includes additional information at the end of every chapter that provides you with additional web sites, books, vendors and more that provide you more information directly related to the topics presented in that chapter. In addition, in several chapters, they also include third-party (and resource kit) tools and utilities directly related to that chapter.
If you're responsible for administering any Windows 2000 PC's, either Professional or Server, you'll benefit from having a copy of this book in your toolkit. It's not going to be an exhaustive resource on every single possible problem or topic of Windows 2000, but it will provide you with a solid overview from an administrator's standpoint along with giving you very insightful resources to find the additional information you might need.
