November 2004 Security Space Survey Results

The Security Space Web Server Survey is a survey of Web server software usage on the Internet broken down by 86 domains. Security Space estimates that nearly 90 percent of all Web sites are "orphans" to which no other sites link. Its Web server survey therefore counts only those servers referenced on other sites.

More than 18.9 million Web sites responded to the November 2004 survey, an increase from October's peak of nearly 17.7 million sites.

More than 8.76 million of Security Space sites surveyed, or 46.27 percent, had .com domains. Once again this is a lower percentage than the previous month despite an increase in the actual number of .com sites. November was also the fourth consecutive month in which the number of sites with .de domains exceeded the number of sites with .net domains.
