By ServerWatch Staff (Send Email)
August 13, 2004

The Security Space Web Server Survey is a survey of Web server software usage on the Internet broken down by 86 domains. Security Space estimates that nearly 90 percent of all Web sites are "orphans" to which no other sites link. Its Web server survey therefore counts only those servers referenced on other sites.

Nearly 14.98 million Web sites responded to the July 2004 survey, an increase from May's peak of about 14.8 million sites.

More than 7.2 million of Security Space sites, or 48 percent, had .com domains. Although this is a lower percentage than June, the actual number of .com sites increased slightly.
