With many companies having achieved 70 to 80 percent virtualization in their data centers, the driving issue for many enterprises now becomes optimizing that virtualization to provide the maximum benefit.Data Center

And despite the many benefits virtualization provides, challenges abound, especially as companies continue to transition to a world of software-defined data centers, raising a number of pressing questions in the minds of many data center managers.

"How do we simplify the lifecycle management of virtual machines? How do we get smarter at analyzing logs and doing triage on problems? How do we correlate data through the different layers of the virtualized data center so we can troubleshoot faster and fix problems sooner?"

In many cases, the answers to these questions won't involve more management, but rather more automation, says Mariano Maluf, president of the VMware User Group (VMUG) and also cloud ecosystem architecture lead for Coca-Cola. I spoke with Maluf to get his insight on what organizations need to consider to make virtualization, cloud architectures, and software-defined data centers work as efficiently as possible.
