602Pro Internet Server Lite -- Easy to setup and administer proxy server that includes an HTTP server, firewall and DHCP server.
More than a simple proxy server, 602Pro Internet Server Lite is a proxy server that gives multiple users efficient access to a single Internet connection, as well as including an HTTP server, firewall and DHCP server.
The speed of the Internet connection doesn't matter -- 602Pro Internet Server Lite works with access speeds ranging from dial-up connections to cable modems and ISDN - but obviously you'll want a higher-speed connection (ISDN, DSL) if you plan on publishing data via the Web server. (In theory, you could use 602Pro Internet Server Lite with a T1/T3 connection, but if you're making this heavy an investment in bandwidth you'll probably be looking at a more sophisticated local network solution.) If your users are using the Internet connection to mainly access electronic mail and the occasional Web surf, then a slower dial-up account will work fine. More than a simple proxy server, 602Pro Internet Server Lite is a proxy server that gives multiple users efficient access to a single Internet connection, as well as including an HTTP server, firewall and DHCP server.
The proxy server in 602Pro Internet Server Lite is configured via a setup wizard. After you tell the software whether you want it to automatically establish a dial-up connection using the Windows 95/98/NT dial-up tools (at which point 602Pro Internet Server Lite does a nice job of determining what type of Internet connection you have), you're then prompted as to what proxy services you want to support: HTTP/HTTPS/HTTP-FTP, FTP, telnet, SOCKS (both 4 and 5), RealAudio and Net2Phone (for Internet telephony).
Further screens in the setup wizard set up the size of the proxy cache (the default is 2MB), whether you want the firewall running, and if you want to publish information via a WWW server. 602Pro Internet Server Lite doesn't include a mail server or a news server, but it can be used to make requests to and from POP3, SMTP and mail servers.
For most users, this level of configuration will be enough. However, for those where slight variances to the normal settings are necessary, 602Pro Internet Server Lite includes a Configuration utility that controls every aspect of the proxy server, Web server and firewall.
