HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers to Use QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel
QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq: QLGC) has been selected as a provider of 8Gb Fibre Channel connectivity for the new HP (NYSE: HPQ) ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8) server line. QLogic's 8Gb Fibre Channel technology allows organizations with previous investments in QLogic 4Gb and 8Gb Fibre Channel technology to migrate seamlessly to HP platforms based on the new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600.
The Fibre Channel mezzanine adapters (the HP BLc QMH2572) for HP ProLiant Gen8 blade servers preserve an enterprise's applications. These adapters are the latest in an extensive QLogic portfolio that includes 10Gb Ethernet NIC, 10Gb converged networking adapters and 4/8Gb Fibre Channel adapters selected and qualified by HP across a broad range of ProLiant Gen8 servers.
"Clients are seeking improved uptime, performance and connectivity to ensure their businesses can simplify operations while maximizing resources," said Jim Ganthier, vice president of marketing, Industry Standard Servers and Software, HP. "Leveraging QLogic’s 8Gb Fibre Channel technology with our new Gen8 servers allows customers to achieve improved data availability and realize management cost savings by consolidating resources."
QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel technology complements the higher compute density and increased number of I/O operations that can be generated by Intel Xeon processor E5-2600-based servers by delivering full hardware offload and optimized application performance, perfect for highly virtualized and cloud computing environments.
According to QLogic, customers can preserve applications that leverage QLogic’s software stack while improving application performance, lowering power requirements and achieving greater virtual machine (VM) scalability. HP Gen8 servers and the BLc QMH2572 adapter jointly enable higher compute densities for virtualized servers and enterprise I/O performance with the industry’s highest reliability.
"QLogic's collaborative relationship with HP spans more than a decade and we have been a key partner in the development of Fibre Channel mezzanine adapters for HP since the inception of HP BladeSystem," said Amit Vashi, vice president, marketing, Host Solutions Group, QLogic. "Organizations can confidently and easily deploy the new HP BLc QMH2572 advanced mezzanine adapter for HP BladeSystem as well as the current portfolio of HP-branded QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters for HP ProLiant Gen8 ML tower servers for remote and branch offices and versatile HP ProLiant Gen8 DL rack-mount servers that deliver a balance of efficiency and performance. HP’s ProLiant Gen8 servers harness the full capabilities of our 8Gb Fibre Channel stack, making QLogic adapters the perfect complement for maximizing overall performance."
The HP BLc QMH2572 8Gb Fibre Channel advanced mezzanine adapter provides high performance connectivity for HP ProLiant servers in large data centers and dynamic and complex environments where server virtualization and consolidation are driving the need for high-speed Fibre Channel connectivity.
"This SAN solution can increase transfer rates for mission-critical data center applications and reduce backup windows. In addition, the fault-tolerant 8Gb Fibre Channel architecture and extended virtualization capabilities allow organizations to support higher virtualization densities, optimize server utilization rates and achieve new levels of flexibility with significant power and cooling savings," said QLogic.
