Deploying Ksplice Uptrack for Open-source Servers
March 19, 2010
Managed dedicated and virtual private servers provider, HostV, said it has deployed subscription-based Ksplice Uptrack to enable server admins to apply Linux kernel security updates without rebooting the server. As mentioned in the news release on I-wire, with Ksplice Uptrack, new Linux kernel updates are automatically converted into rebootless update packages.
"HostV, a leader in managed Virtual Private Servers and Dedicated servers, announced today it has completed deployment of Ksplice Uptrack, a subscription service that enables server administrators to apply important Linux kernel security updates without rebooting the server.
"Previously, HostV was required to reboot servers after applying Kernel updates, which are necessary for maintaining server security and stability. Although this downtime was minimal and most customers were not impacted by it, it nevertheless provided brief windows during which the server was unavailable."
