November 2002 Netcraft Survey Highlights
December 2, 2002
The Netcraft Web Server Survey is a survey of Web server software usage on the Internet. Netcraft received responses to its November 2002 survey from 35,686,907 sites. This represents a slight increase from October's all-time low of 35.1 million sites, and after four consecutive dips, it is the first time the number of sites has increased since peaking at 38.8 million sites in June.
As usual, Apache, Microsoft, Zeus, and iPlanet remained the key players with shares of 60.80 percent, 28.69 percent, 2.17 percent, and 1.37 percent, respectively. The top vendors once again retained their rankings of the previous month, with Apache increasing its market share by a quarter of a percentage point and Microsoft decreasing its share 0.20 percent. Zeus and iPlanet again remained essentially flat.
NT-specific servers accounted for 28.92 percent of servers surveyed, yet again a minuscule decrease from the previous month's 29.13 percent. Apache-specific servers accounted for 62.35 percent, a marginal increase from October's 62.17 percent. Macintosh-specific servers decreased slightly to 0.31 percent.
Of the servers surveyed, 16,351,780, or 45.82 percent, had .com domains.
